Cafe Assistants to strengthen our existing team

Rocks by Rail is a volunteer run accredited Museum The principal objective of Rocks by Rail is to deliver a local industrial heritage project for the benefit of the community, academic and educational study and the general public. The project celebrates, conserves and enhances the UK’s industrial heritage by contributing to the character and overall heritage value of the area by highlighting the heritage aspects of local ironstone quarrying and their associated quarry railways; quarry extraction, industrial installations for cement manufacture and their associated industrial railways.

Our Sundew Cafe is staffed during our opening days Thursdays and Operating Days (specified Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays) between Easter and mid October to cater for both visitors and museum volunteers. We operate a limited menu. No previous experience is necessary as training will be given . Quality Customer service counts throughout the Museum, whether in the Cafe, the Exhibition halls, or on the trains.

Skills

While no experience is necessary, you need to be well organised, and able to prioritize and schedule activities so that the customer experience is enhanced as we welcome a wide range of people from enthusiasts to casual visitors.

The project celebrates, conserves and enhances the UK’s industrial heritage by contributing to the character and overall heritage value of the area by highlighting the heritage aspects of local ironstone quarrying and their associated quarry railways; quarry extraction, industrial installations for cement manufacture and their associated industrial railways.
The Museum’s collection represents a particular specialism in the field of industrial heritage preservation. It is based around three large buildings , housing our Collection, a mock ironstone quarry and railway .The project provides a wide range of opportunities for people to volunteer in group activities conserving exhibits , learning old skills, grounds maintenance, archives conservation and exhibitions , presenting and celebrating their local industrial heritage both to the region’s population and visitors from further a-field.

Availability Details

Our Cafe operates from 10.00 a.m. until 4 p.m. every Thursday. It is open on operating Sundays, which are generally the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and on the 5th Sunday (if there is one) during the same hours In addition, we are open on Bank Holiday Mondays, 10.00 a.m. until 4 p.m Our season runs from Easter until October.
