About

Oakham United Charities is a small group of independent charities dating back centuries. Two of these, the Charity of Henry Forster (founded in 1692) and the Rutland Society of Industry (founded in 1785), were set up to offer financial assistance to young people preparing for an occupation or trade to enable them to earn their own living.

Today the Charities offer small grants to students undertaking apprenticeships, vocational training or university courses to assist with the purchase of books and equipment.

The Charity of Henry Forster offers grants to students living in the Parishes of Oakham, Barleythorpe and Gunthorpe.

The Rutland Society of Industry offers grants to students living within the County of Rutland, UK.

The Charity is run by 5 volunteer trustees.  We meet several times a year to decide on the running of the charity. Once or twice a year we meet to review application forms.
