Pepper's - A Safe Place is a community mental health organisation with bases in Oakham and Melton Mowbray.
We offer multiple drop-in sessions during the week where all adults are welcome to come and take a break, socialise, combat isolation, have fun and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. We also provide additional activities, which have ranged from cookery and art classes to tai chi sessions, music-making and gardening workshops.
The main aim of our volunteers is to provide a listening and empathetic ear to our members and we are always looking for friendly people to join our team. From welcoming a new member who may be a little nervous about visiting Pepper's for the first time to engaging with members over a cup of tea, this is a rewarding opportunity for those looking to make a difference in the community.
Skills
We are looking for friendly and empathetic lead volunteers who are able to offer a listening ear to our members. Our sessions provide a safe place for people to look after their mental health and re-connect with the community. Our volunteers do not offer therapy or counselling to members, rather they provide peer support, tea, coffee, biscuits and a relaxed and welcoming social space for members to share experiences and take some time out.
Pepper’s is looking for a Lead Volunteers to help open and close our centre, run sessions with the support of other volunteers, and ensure a safe and friendly space for our members.
In addition, we very much welcome anyone who feels they can bring additional skills to Pepper's. This may include creative skills that can contribute towards activity sessions or perhaps experience in marketing and fundraising.
