Oakham Canal -

Our next major project is to lay a new aggregate based surface on the "OAS/Fishermen's Section" of the canal. This section runs south from the layby on Burley Road, for approx 420 metres to where the bridge crosses the dam. Rather than digging out manually and moving the aggregate by wheelbarrows, this time we will be using a mechanical digger and dumper, so the work will be much less manual. However, we still need plenty of hands to rake and shape the path edges, rake the aggregate and also help with "Traffic control" along the path while we are working. We will start work on Saturday 25th Feb, scraping back the old path over that weekend, then laying the new aggregate path from Mon Feb 27th to Fri March 3rd. If we run over, we will continue work on the weekend of March 4th and 5th. We will need volunteers on all of the days, so if you fancy coming along, please let us know by replying to this Event, via Messenger, or via our website at www.oakhamcanal.org. It would be very helpful for planning purposes to know who is coming on each day. We will be working from the layby on Burley Road, Location C on the map (see facebook). Skills

For general volunteers, normal gardening skills (digging, raking, shovelling) will be sufficient. We will also be using a mechanical digger and dumper for this project - if you have specialist skills operating these, please get in touch.
