Mobility Scooter Hire Operative

We are a charity operating from a portacabin in the St Mary’s Way Car Park in Melton and we are looking to set up a site in Oakham – we have not found one yet! We would expect to be located in the centre of town and open in line with market days, so Wednesdays and Saturdays 9.30 – 14.00. We will need an extra body to support our efforts. You will need to live in Oakham as occasionally there may be a need to pop in on a non work day to receive or issue a scooter that has been booked. Training will be in Melton and the occasional need to work in Melton may arise. The plan is for the volunteer to work with an existing volunteer or employee on market days in Oakham probably from 9.30 to 2pm. As we are yet to find a location to work from, the start date is only a best guess. The candidate can gain experience by working in Melton until the Oakham base is found.

Skills

There is minimal admin but what there is needs to be done accurately and involving a little computer work. The key attribute is a little bit of physical ooomph to get the scooters in and out of the store and sometimes helping a customer load a scooter into their car. A scooter may occasionally need a little bit of ‘motivation’ to align them up properly so that you can get the doors shut. So, you will be reasonably fit but not necessarily a slave to the treadmill, you will be a bit flexible on days of work but everything will be agreed in advance or on a ‘can do if needed’ basis. A positive attitude to work, capable of working within a small team and on your own, happy with a little admin and a good time keeper.

We provide mobility scooters and wheelchairs for hire at non-commercial rates to those with mobility issues. We are based in Melton but are not limited to Melton residents so a hirer may be staying in the area and find it easier to hire than to bring their own equipment with them. We have some members who live in Oakham. A hire may be for a day session or a weekend (as per our opening hours) or longer.
