Home from Hospital & Patient Transport Volunteer

You could offer a friendly, confidential service to people as they return home from a hospital stay or provide transport for patients with on going oncology appointments. This involves one-to-one, short-term, practical support, so that patients can return home with confidence when no other support is available. You could help with their shopping, collecting their prescriptions, or just being there when someone starts to do something for themselves.

Skills

You'll need a friendly personality, and be able to spot areas of concern. Good communication and listening skills are a must, as well as a non-judgemental attitude towards someone's circumstances, and be able to keep things confidential. Sometimes, you'll be working on your own, other times, you'll be building relationships with the people you visit, something which can be rewarding for you and the people you support.

Our services vary from area to area and in some cases are available via your local authority or health services.
