Befriending Volunteer - Domestic Abuse

Living Without Abuse (LWA) deliver domestic abuse and sexual violence support for survivors across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We provide information and options to enable the service user to make informed decisions. Volunteering with LWA can be a very rewarding experience and you will gain many useful personal and professional skills, as well as making a huge and positive difference to victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. As little as a couple of hours a week could make a huge difference to a victim of domestic abuse. Many victims of abuse are vulnerable and feel alone, isolated and afraid. It's a huge step for victims to seek support. If you are empathetic, compassionate and good at listening then becoming a volunteer for our Befriending Service may be the role for you. Our Befrienders have a caseload of 4 service users and provide weekly phone calls to offer emotional support whilst they are on a waiting list for other LWA services. This is a remote working role, which allows volunteers to be more flexible in their availability and volunteer from the comfort of their own home.

Skills

- Listening and the ability to communicate well with a variety of people is essential - Punctuality, reliability and a commitment to volunteering - Ability to empathise, be non-judgmental and compassionate - Prior knowledge of domestic and/or sexual violence is desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided
