Becoming a Tree Champion

Rutland desperately needs to increase its tree cover for many reasons including reducing surface water flooding, increasing biodiversity, cooling, reducing air pollution and leaving a green and pleasant environment for the next generation. Rutland County Council is supporting all its parishes to become involved in the process by providing advice and access to trees to plant. The parishes provide local contacts and knowledge to find suitable spots to plant trees along with willing volunteers to plant them and care about them. Some parishes do not currently have any contacts involved in the process. We are looking for a willing volunteers from these parishes. They do not have to be tree experts. They do not have to be physically fit. It would be helpful if they could attend quarterly meetings and are good at cajoling others into helping them. The parishes that need someone are: Ashwell, Barleythorpe, Barrow, Brooke, Burley, Egleton, Essendine, Exton & Horn, Glaston, Gt Casterton, Gunthorpe, Hambleton, Leighfield, Lyddington, Manton, Normanton, Pickworth, Pilton, Preston, Teigh, Thistleton, Thorpe by Water, Tickencote, Tixover, Wardley, Whitwell Are you willing to be the person your parish and Rutland needs?
